Making Bath Bomb
  • Bath Bomb Mold
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cup
  • Tablespoon
  • Rubber Gloves (Optional)

Instructions For Bath Bomb

  1. Use the large bowl to combine the dry ingredients (baking soda, cornstarch, and Epsom salt). Be sure to break up any clumps to leave an even powder.
  2. Use the smaller bowl to mix the coconut and essential oils, along with the food coloring if you so choose.
  3. Pour the liquid mixture into the large bowl with the dry ingredients. Ideally, use your hands to ensure full incorporation of the two mixtures. Use gloves if desired!
  4. The mold can then be filled with the final mixture. Be sure to firmly press in the mold and leave for 24-48 hours so that the bomb can harden!
  5. Store the bath bombs in the refrigerator if you live in a warmer climate. Otherwise, the bombs may start to fall apart.
  6. Now for the best part, fill the tub with warm water, then drop in the bath bomb! Soak for about half an hour.
  7. Reap the wonderful benefits!

Questions and Tips for Bath Bomb

  • Why are my bath bombs crumbly?
    • Assuming you have properly pressed them, this is usually because the coconut oil was not warm enough. Be sure to use warm and fully liquid coconut oil, as the hardened oil could cause crumbliness. If this is not the issue, just add a bit more coconut oil to the mixture and you should be set!
  • Why won’t my bath bombs bind at all?
    • This could be due to adding too much coconut oil. In this case, just gradually add more of the dry mixture while testing out the pressing. Voila!
  • Any other ways to spice it up?
    • You bet!
    • You can add milk powder, adding a quarter of a cup of it into the dry mixture. Just be sure that you also increase the coconut oil. Wet sand is the consistency we are going for!
    • Dried rose petals or calendula flowers could also be incorporated. Ah, the romantism of petals!
    • Turmeric or beetroot powder can be used in place of the food coloring.
  • How can I clean the bathtub after the bath?
    • Just pour some baking soda after draining the bath. Once the baking soda is buffed in, it will make the cleaning easier.

More Q&A

  • Do I have to use coconut oil?
    • Nope! Olive or avocado oil are among the alternatives.
  • Do I have to use citric acid?
    • Yes, there is no way around this because it is a necessary part for the fizzing.
  • Do I have to use cornstarch?
    • No, you do not! In case of allergies or preference, feel free to substitute it with equal part baking soda.
  • What if soaking in the bath has caused itching?
    • It could be due to a reaction to the essential oil or the coconut oil. You can check whether you have allergies to coconut oil by rubbing and leaving some on your skin. With the essential oils, consider using a different essential oil.
